1). What should my child wear to dance class?
Ballet:
Girls: We ask that all female Ballet dancers please arrive to class dressed in a black body suit, pink ballet tights and pink ballet shoes. Hair must be pulled up and off of the face, preferably in a bun.
Boys: We ask that boy Ballet dancers please arrive to class in black pants and a t-shirt.
Jazz: All Jazz dancers need to be dressed in form fitted clothing (ex: Body suit and tights, shorts, leggings or jogging pants). Jazz dancers must have black jazz shoes.
Hip- Hop: All dancers need to come prepared in loose, comfortable clothing. We ask that dancers also have clean, non marking, indoor running shoes.
Modern: - All Modern dancers need to come in form fitted clothing.
2). Where can I buy my child dance attire?
You can buy your child's dance clothes at places like Wal-Mart or other sports based clothing stores. To purchase dance shoes (Ballet or Jazz Shoes), you can order online, or find them in Castlegar at Turning Pointe.
3). Can parents watch classes?
Nelson School of Dance does have a "Closed Door Policy". This meaning that parents are not able to watch classes, as it's very distracting for the dancers.
4). Will there be an open house where parents can watch classes?
An open house will take place within the first term of the year. A date will be annouced closer to the date.
5). Will there be a year end performance?
Nelson School of Dance will be hosting a year end performance on May 24, 2015. The location of the performance venue will be announced closer to the date.
6). Will costumes be needed for the year end performance?
Yes. Costumes will be needed for the year end show and they will be an additional cost. The cost and costume details will be confirmed closer to the performance date.
7). What does the craft option of the classes include?
For convenience, parents also have the option of enrolling their child in craft, before or after the selected classes. Craft time runs for 45 minutes.
8). How long before class should we arrive?
Tiny Tots and dancers are encouraged to arrive 5 minutes prior to class time. All other dancers are encouraged to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the class start time. Dancers are expected to be warmed up and ready for their class time.
9). How will parents stayed informed about upcoming dates and / or changes in the schedule?
Nelson School of Dance has a Facebook Page we encourage you to 'Like' and follow us on Facebook order to keep updated about in class news, photo uploads and for further updates. Our website will also be updated regularly in addition to information distribution that will occur at the end of classes.
10). What are costume costs?
Costumes will cost $55 per class. $30 due in September 2014 and $25 due in January 2015.
11). How to become a member of the NSD Dance team?
Dancers must participate in a minuim of two dance classes plus Friday rehersals.
